Advising
DepartmentsConnect with Your Academic Advisor for a Successful College Journey
At Nichols College, our dedicated advising team is here to guide you through every step of your academic journey. First-year and transfer students are paired with professional advisors who specialize in the college’s curriculum and degree programs. This partnership begins before the first semester and continues throughout the academic year, ensuring students have the support they need to navigate their college experience with confidence.
Your academic advisor is your go-to resource for course selection, schedule adjustments, major/minor/certificate options, and academic support. By building strong relationships with students, advisors can offer personalized guidance tailored to individual interests, skills, and career goals. This holistic approach helps students make well-informed decisions about their academic paths. To stay on track, students are encouraged to meet with their advisor at least 2-3 times per semester.
Transitioning to Faculty Advisors
After the first year, students transition to a faculty advisor within their chosen major. This shift is key to fostering professional connections with experts in their field. Faculty advisors provide specialized guidance on major requirements, internships, and career opportunities, ensuring students are fully prepared for the next steps in their academic and professional lives.
Navigating Your First Year
Making informed academic decisions is crucial to your success, and your advisor is here to help. Our holistic advising approach focuses on getting to know each student personally, allowing for meaningful discussions and customized academic planning. First-year advisors meet regularly with students throughout their first two semesters to provide essential support, including:
- Exploring major, minor, and career options
- Addressing academic concerns and challenges
- Developing strategies for academic success
- Clarifying college policies and requirements
- Mapping out courses to meet graduation and academic goals
Your advisor is your partner in success—connect with them early and often to make the most of your college experience!
