Meet Our Team
Connect with your academic advisor who will help you navigate your college career.
The Advising team for 1st year students and transfers is made up of professionals who specialize in the curriculum and degree programs here at Nichols College. New students and advisors are paired up before the first semester begins and they work as a team throughout the academic year. Advisors help students learn about, and plan for, their college career. They serve as a resource for everything from course selection and planning, schedule changes, major/minor/certificate options, and academic support.
The success of the Advising team stems from an individualized personal approach; the better advisors know their students, the better they can assist them. Developing meaningful relationships with students can allow for more in depth conversations about majors, careers, and course selection based on the interests and skills of a student. This holistic advising approach ensures that students are provided with the information they need to make well-informed decisions about their academic career. Students should meet with their advisor at least 2-3 times each semester to make sure they are on track academically.
After the first year, students are reassigned to a faculty advisor in their major. This transition is essential to developing professional relationships with individuals who are experts in their fields. Faculty advisors provide academic advising on the curriculum, major and internship requirements.
Navigate Your First Year
To make the best academic decisions for yourself, you need to be well informed. Your advisor can provide you with the information you need to make those choices.
We take a holistic approach to advising; our goal is to get to know each student so that we can discuss individualized plans that suit their needs and interests. First-year advisors meet with each of their advisees multiple times in the first two semesters. The support from advising includes, but is not limited to:
- Providing more information about majors, minors and career options
- Discussing an academic problem or concern
- Developing strategies to improve academic performance
- Better understanding the college's academic policies
- Reviewing curriculum requirements
- Exploring what courses to take each semester
Course Registration Process
First-year students will work with their academic advisor to better understand course requirements and create a schedule for their second semester. In addition, students and advisors will plan out multiple courses on a timeline to help prepare for future semesters and address course sequence needs.
Nichols College is required to have an official final high school transcript. All final official high school transcripts with the date of graduation must be submitted to Admissions to be fully enrolled. Any questions please contact 508-213-2203. Transcripts should come directly from your high school and can be mailed to P.O. Box 5000 Dudley, MA 01571 or submitted electronically to admissions@nichols.edu.
Students with declared majors in the sophomore, junior, or senior year will meet with their assigned faculty advisor(s) to plan for upcoming course schedules. This will help them to stay on track for graduation, meet degree requirements, and address issues with course sequence.
To find out who a student’s academic advisor is, they need to go to Self-Service (accessible on OneLogin) and select Student Planning. Go to Plan & Schedule. The advisor(s) name(s) will be located on the Advising tab.
