Campus Living

Residence Life

We foster a vibrant, tight-knit community of students and professionals with an open exchange of ideas and a variety of academic, athletic, and service-oriented activities.

Students can find niche communities on campus ranging from esports, to Student Government, Campus Activities Board, and more! There is something for everyone here and that is part of what makes our campus feel so alive.

Gender Inclusive Housing

Nichols College Office of Residence Life is committed to creating safe, comfortable, and inclusive homes for all students in our campus community, regardless of sex, gender, or gender expression/identity.

At Nichols College, any students regardless of gender identity, may choose to reside together. Students may live together in any multiple occupancy bedroom in Copper Beech Apartments, Remillard, Olsen, Budleigh, Kuppenheimer, Shamie or Winston Hall. North Hall is an all-female residence hall. Center Hall and South Hall are all-male residence halls.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is this option available for first-year students?
Nichols College Office of Residence Life is excited to expand our gender-inclusive housing policy to include first-year students. Beginning Fall 2020, gender-inclusive housing is available to first-year students in Shamie Hall. First-year students can indicate gender-inclusive housing as an option on their housing application. Students who opt into gender-inclusive housing are placed in a similar fashion to other first-year students utilizing personal preferences from the housing application.

Students who choose gender-inclusive housing may request a roommate(s). Students wishing to be roommates must request each other and each must select gender-inclusive housing as their preferred option on the housing application. The same housing deadlines will apply.

How do current Nichols students choose gender-inclusive housing?
Upperclass students (Sophomore, Junior, Senior) agree to live together when they select a room during housing selection in the Spring semester. Students may select to live in Copper Beech Apartments, Remillard, Olsen, Budleigh, Kuppenheimer, or Winston Hall. There is no additional application process to reside in a gender-inclusive room. The institution, however, does not recommend that a student regardless of sex, gender, gender expression/identity, or sexual orientation live with a significant other(s).

Do I need to choose this option?
Gender-inclusive housing will never be forced upon a student.

What happens if there is a vacancy in my room?
Gender-inclusive housing is the students’ decision and will never be forced upon an individual. If a vacancy occurs, the students in the room will have 72 hours to fill the vacancy regardless of gender. If the vacancy is not filled, the room will revert back to a single-gender space, which Residence Life may fill as needed. Vacancies in suites and apartments will be handled on a case-by-case basis, to ensure that all parties are comfortable with the make-up of the space.

What if a student chooses to participate in gender-inclusive housing and becomes uncomfortable with their living situation?
The College’s established room change process allows for reassignment in any living situation where there is a problem that cannot be resolved.
